The Bronze Nipple (Male-Male BSP) is a heavy-duty threaded pipe fitting designed to connect two female-threaded components in a straight line, creating a secure and leak-resistant joint. Manufactured from solid bronze, this nipple provides excellent corrosion resistance and long-term durability, making it ideal for marine, industrial, and general plumbing systems where strength and reliability are essential.
π§ Key Features
Solid bronze construction β exceptional resistance to corrosion, particularly in saltwater and demanding environments.
Male-to-male BSP threads β precision-cut British Standard Pipe threads ensure compatibility with standard BSP systems and secure, accurate engagement.
Straight connector design β joins two female-threaded fittings or components in a direct, in-line configuration.
Compact and robust body β delivers high mechanical strength while remaining suitable for tight or confined installations.
Reliable sealing performance β accurately machined threads help achieve tight, leak-resistant connections when used with appropriate sealing tape or compound.
β Typical Applications
This bronze nipple fitting is well suited for:
Marine plumbing β freshwater and seawater systems, bilge piping, deck wash systems, and engine cooling circuits.
Industrial piping β fuel systems, compressed air lines, hydraulic return lines, and general fluid transfer installations.
Domestic plumbing β potable water systems, heating circuits, and general household pipework.
System extensions or repairs β ideal for spacing, adapting, or extending existing BSP-threaded components.
π‘ Why Use a Bronze Nipple Fitting?
Bronze threaded nipples offer superior strength and corrosion resistance compared to many alternative materials, particularly in marine and high-moisture environments. Their simple, straight-through design makes them practical for extending pipe runs or connecting fittings while maintaining structural integrity and system reliability. The result is a durable, dependable connection suitable for both new installations and maintenance applications.

BSP vs. NPT Threads β What You Need to Know
Not all pipe threads are the same β and mixing them can cause leaks, damage, and costly downtime.
In the United States, most pipe fittings use NPT (National Pipe Taper) threads. However, many marine systems, European equipment, and imported vessels use BSP (British Standard Pipe) threads.
These thread types are not compatible.
Key Differences Between BSP and NPT
Thread Angle & Shape
- BSP: 55Β° thread angle with rounded peaks and valleys
- NPT: 60Β° thread angle with flat peaks and valleys
Because the angles and shapes are different, the threads will not properly mate together.
Sealing Method
- NPT: Tapered thread that seals by thread compression (metal-to-metal contact). Thread sealant or tape is typically required.
- BSP: Sealing depends on the type β BSPP or BSPT (explained below).
Understanding BSPP vs. BSPT
There are two main types of BSP threads:
πΉ BSPP (British Standard Pipe Parallel)
- Parallel (straight) threads
- Does NOT seal on the threads
- Requires a sealing washer, bonded seal, O-ring, or gasket
- Common in hydraulic and marine applications
BSPP connections seal at the face of the fitting, not in the threads.
πΉ BSPT (British Standard Pipe Tapered)
- Tapered threads
- Seals by thread compression (similar in concept to NPT)
- Typically requires thread sealant
However, BSPT is still NOT interchangeable with NPT, because:
- The thread angle is different (55Β° vs. 60Β°)
- The thread form is different
Even though both are tapered, they will not properly seal together.
Why This Matters in the U.S. Marine Industry
The U.S. market predominantly stocks NPT fittings, which creates challenges when servicing:
- European marine engines
- Imported vessels
- Hydraulic systems
- Marine equipment designed to BSP standards
Using the wrong thread type can lead to:
- Leaks
- Cracked fittings
- Damaged ports
- System failure
Our Specialty: BSP Solutions
We focus specifically on BSP fittings and components, stocking and supplying BSPP and BSPT products to fill the gap in the U.S. marine market.
If your equipment requires BSP threads, we provide the correct parts β helping you avoid mismatched fittings and costly downtime.
